Professor Deirdre Ahern is Director of Postgraduate Teaching and Learning in the School of Law, Trinity College Dublin where she lectures in Company Law and supervises doctoral research in the field. A regular international speaker on EU and comparative company law, she has published extensively including a monograph Directors’ Duties: Law and Practice (Thomson Round Hall, 2009).

Recent research has focused on the unpacking the impact of AI on boards, directors’ duties and corporate governance. Deirdre has been a long-standing contributing editor to Gore Browne on Companies and currently serves on the editorial boards of European Company Case Law and Law and Financial Markets Review.

As an appointed member of the European Commission’s Expert Group on Company Law and Corporate Governance since 2020 she is advising the Commission on the development of its work programme on company law including revisions to the Shareholders Rights Directive II. In June 2026 Deirdre was appointed by Minister Niamh Smyth as Chairperson of the Company Law Review Group.
